Pink and Orange

Hm, I’m usually not the one to wear midi skirts due to my short stature, but this one grew on me. My aunt decided that she didn’t want this anymore so I took it because I saw the potential. You agree?

Tips on wearing a Midi Skirt:
1. Make sure you wear it high waisted.
2. When choosing a top, make sure it still accentuates the waist by choosing a slim fitting top or even with a cropped jacket.
3. Add a belt for extra pizazz and shape.
4. Heels are necessary (especially for us height-challenged folks).
5. Should hit between the knee and mid calf, depending on your height.

Okay, so is it just me, or do rain boots easily rip? I’ve gone through 2 pairs of rain boots in the last 2 winter seasons. I bought a cheap pair from Target but it ripped, so then I bought this pair from Aldo and after only 2 uses, it ripped. Maybe I’m walking weird? Maybe I bend my ankles too much? I have no clue. I really want to get Hunter boots, but I’m afraid they’re going to rip too. Any suggestions?

I was unsure about posting this outfit because I realized that I already wore this plaid shirt on my blog a couple of months ago. What is the usual protocol for wearing the same clothing piece on a blog? Is it okay? How long in-between posts? How many times can I re-wear something? I don’t want to be marked as an outfit repeater!

If you know what the acceptable rule of repetition on a fashion blog is…let me know. Otherwise, Kate Sanders will get the best of me. 😛

“Who’s that girl…”

It’s Thrift Style Thursday and the theme is…..CELEBRITY INSPIRED!

I’ve always been a fan of Zooey Deschanel, from her acting and quirkiness, to her hipster but feminine style. I’ve been told numerous times that I am the Asian version of ZD. But I will let you decide.

Because I have nothing else better to do, here’s a list of why ZD and I are similar:

1. We both have dark, long, and thick hair.
2. Our glasses make us look hipster.
3. We both sing what we say.
4. I’m a handbell PRO.
5. I am a teacher (ZD plays a teacher on her show)
6. We both love the “Anthropologie” look.
7. Awkwardness may be involved.

Okay, so most of these are technically represented by her character, Jess, on the show. But for some reason, I have this inkling that Jess and ZD are one and the same.

So I’ve noticed that ZD is all about the A-line shape. So as I was rummaging through my aunt’s “don’t want this anymore” pile, I stumbled across this awesome sweater dress that totally reminded me of ZD. Pair it with a nice belt, cardigan, and my RayBans and you’ve got the look! And yes, technically I did not get this at a thrift store, but as my friend Kristi of Alligator Toe would say…it’s pre-thrifting. 🙂

Unlock the Red

I was debating about boycotting posting anything red for this month in retaliation of Valentine’s Day, but then I’d just be that person. Instead, I’m going to set aside my feelings of this holiday and “Unlock the Red”. Okay, okay, I’m not really against the holiday, but I’m not one of those “OMG I need a Valentine” or the “I hate S.A.D.” girls either. Oh wait, but did I just admit that I am by denying it? Oh shoot.

Anyways, I found this top at Goodwill and thought the lock pattern was cute. It is definitely on the border of a type of pattern that my students might be caught wearing, but I think pairing it with an “adult” looking jacket, skinny jeans, and heels make it appropriate for a high-school-looking-but-really-the-teacher 23 year-old woman.

Winter White

Ah finally, a new outfit after a week and a half of craziness!

This week’s  Thrift Style Thursday theme is Winter White hence my struggling attempt to keep with the light color palette. This dress was originally attended for last year’s nautical themed family reunion, but of course I changed my mind and haven’t taken this number out since. Now seemed like a good time to! Pair it with a sweater and boots, and you’ve got a winter look!

Since it’s been such a while since I’ve actually written a lot on a blog post, here are some snippets of my life currently:

1. Spilled coffee on my white dress which I luckily was able to get it out before I headed off to work.

2. My students discovered my blog and jokes about my lengthy list of hashtags has become the norm.

3. I have a pile of quiz corrections to grade that I’m dreading.

4. I have a big red pimple located right in-between the eyes.

5. My students got me addicted to the game Flappy Bird (My score currently is 1. And no, it’s not one of those games where the lowest score wins.)

6. Learned that no one uses Facebook anymore, according to my students. Prove them wrong by liking my Facebook page!

Yes, I learn a lot from my students.

So, how have you all been? 🙂

In the World of J. Austen

I know what you’re thinking and the answer is NO, I did not actually wear this today to walk around town. We took family portraits over the holidays, so I thought I would share my look with you. I’m not really into the traditional studio family portraits, but hey, it’s an excuse to get all dressed up!

So let me tell you something about this dress…MY FAVORITE.
Every girl needs that dress, with a lace corset bodice and satin ribbon, that makes her feel like she’s the female lead character in a Jane Austen novel.

Purse
Hand-me-down: Vintage Coach
{Has anyone taken a look at the new Coach line? I’m genuinely impressed. Previously, they have always been about the “C’s” and the bright colors, but now they’re bringing back the simple, classic, but modern look. Absolutely love!}

Sometimes you want to stand out, but not be a highlighter. I say, go for the softer shades like this mauve color to make a subtle statement. Contrast the soft color against neutral pieces and watch your outfit command attention without people going “Woah, where’s the new vocabulary word?” {Yes, kind of a lame teacher joke, but hopefully you understood my intent or at least got a good laugh at my expense.}

Pop of Pink

The Problem: You want to wear a simple T-shirt, but you’re headed to work and that simply is not acceptable.
The Fix: Just throw on a skirt that POPS, heels, and a statement necklace, and make it a day.

Sweet Leather

Thrift Style Thursday // Leather

For some reason, I always imagined the leather jacket (or faux in this case) paired up with pants, or jeans, and maybe even a motorcycle to create a fierce and tough look. But being the super girly girl that I am, I wanted to see if it would work with a super feminine dress to turn the outfit from being fierce and tough to soft and sweet.

I have been debating whether or not to announce this to the world, but one of my New Year’s Resolution is to not by anything new this year (Well, my first checkpoint and goal is to make it till my birthday in April. I have to be realistic right?). I’ve decided to do this because I’ve got a major case of the travel bug, and in order to satisfy this inkling of mine, I need to save as much money as possible. Maybe announcing this will help keep myself accountable. Here’s what I’m doing…

1. Only buying thrifted/used items if necessary.
2. Borrow, borrow, borrow
3. Go through my aunt’s closet for hand-me-downs
4. Accepting merchandise to promote

Want to join me?

Thanks for Patrice, from Looking Fly on a Dime, for the inspiration, and Zhenya for the push to put it on my blog because she’s doing it too! 🙂
