Hidden Lake

After 24 years living in my hometown, I had no idea there was a lake down the street from my house! Isn’t that ridiculous? I am pretty ashamed of myself. But better late than never right?

This new discovery was made just in time because this week’s Thrifty Thursday theme is Nautical. Today I felt like ditching the typical blue/white deal and decided to mix in a little orange and of course my Sperry Top-Siders which happens to be pink.

Tangerine and pink? I think it’s a workable combo.

Trend: The Tulle Skirt

Okay ladies (and gents if you’re reading 🙂 ), if you want to feel like royalty, no need for a wear-just-once-designer ball gown. Just grab yourself a tulle skirt and you can embrace your inner majesty every single day!

I’ve been searching high and low for the perfect tulle skirt that has the right amount of poof, quality fabric, perfect shade of pink, and is the right length. Like the prince in search for Cinderella, I was in no such luck until my fairy shop mother (a.k.a the internet) brought me to The Girl The Loves. Let’s just say that I have found my Cinderella.

Being the indecisive person I am, I couldn’t decide whether to go with the typical girly look or the tough rocker look. There are so many different ways to style a tulle skirt! Here’s another look where I just switched out my jacket, necklace, and shoes to show my inner rock princess.

All About Chevron

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone’s weekend was relaxing and fun! Mine was pretty low key as I kick started my spring break. Surprising and sadly, I don’t have any trips or adventures planned for this week besides doing some spring cleaning and lesson planning. No worries, vacationing at home is always the best. 🙂

I’m not usually the one to wear an all over pattern, but I’m totally diggin’ this dress. Pin up Darling did it again with the Chevron Bow Back Dress. The shift-style shape paired with the long sleeves and soft fabric makes this dress my go to dress because it really does not need much and the bold pattern says it all. 🙂

And did you notice the back of the dress?

Cloudy with a chance of KompanyKay

I’m sad to say that I broke my “no shopping” New Years’ Resolution yesterday. But please, hold the disappointment and hear me out. 🙂

This week is spirit week and yesterday was Tie Dye Day and to my dismay, I realized that I did not own a single tie dye item and had absolutely no time to make my own. But I was not going to let this ruin my spirited streak, hence I had to succumb to the pressure and head over to the all-purpose Target.

I don’t mind the sacrifice. All for the sake of the children, right? 🙂

Thrift style Thursday: Pastels

Ok, so this dress isn’t thrifted, but when Pin Up Darling so graciously sent this over to me, I knew I had to use it for the pastel theme.

DSC_9803 DSC_9807

I normally never leave long sleeves down as is. I usually roll them up because I hate the feeling of loose fabric around my wrists (I know I’m a weirdo). But guess what, I didn’t have to roll up the sleeves for this dress! Shocker huh?

The cinched sleeves solves that problem and to top it off Pin Up Darling added retro gold buttons for an accent. I give them a thumbs up, don’t you agree?

Deb Shops so generously sent me this casual boho style top, and I just absolutely couldn’t bear to wait until the weekend to wear it casually. How do you style a casual top for work? Well, just add a slim skirt, blazer and heels or flats and there you go.

You may be wondering why I switched from flats to heels…well you try walking in heels while teaching all day. Yea, not going to happen (anymore anyway 🙂 )

Thrift Style Thursday : Movie Inspired

When I sit down to watch Charlie’s Angels (the movie and/or series), two thoughts come into my head:
1. I wish I could kick butt like that.
2. I wish I had a dress like that.

Number 1 is still in the works, but I can officially say that I accomplished the latter. 🙂

I titled this post “Keep Holding On” because that’s what it feels like these days. But don’t worry, it’s NOT in a bad way thank goodness. There’s just an enormous amount of awesomeness that I want to be a part of. Haha. If you didn’t already know, I have the tendency to overindulge in hobbies/jobs.

1. Teaching high school math
I have to make a living somehow right? 🙂 Teaching has been my passion since I was a young wee little one. My students keep asking me “Why did you want to be a teacher? You have to stay in school all day!” Well kiddos, I actually enjoy school and have been enjoying it all my life. Some may say that’s nerdy, some may say that’s weird, but I say what’s life without continuous learning and knowledge? But really, the actual reason why I love teaching is because it’s my way of serving and giving back to the community and making a positive impact in these kids lives (at least I hope so!). And I can’t lie…having summers off is a plus. 🙂

2. Blogging
A girl’s gotta have a separate life from her job right? I’ve been working really hard to collaborate with different retailers to bring you all some special goodies. Be on the look out for an awesome giveaway soon as well as some awesome discount codes to freshen up your wardrobe in time for spring! 🙂

3. Wedding / Bridal Shower Invitations
If you didn’t know already, I am trying to get into the handmade stationary/invitation designing business. I am currently working on a wedding right now and am really excited about the design. Hopefully I will get pictures up soon!

4. Vacation Bible School Director
Just recently, I decided to volunteer for the position of VBS Director at my parents’ church. If you’re not familiar with VBS, it’s basically a one-week “camp” or 3-hr session during the summer where kids come to learn more about Christ through music, various fun activities, and bible stories. It’s a big job that I’m excited, anxious, and overwhelmed by. It’s my first time! Wish me luck! 🙂

Springing Blue

So is it a bad thing when students come up to you and say “You look darker”? Oh well, this is what happens when you go to Hawaii over a week long break. 🙂

DSC_8108

So for this outfit, I’m giving a shout out and a thumbs up to EVERLANE. They so generously sent me the Ryan tank in Charcoal to model for you all. Let me tell you something, this is the most comfortable, well-fitted, quality tank that I’ve worn in a long time. I usually don’t get tanks because they end up fitting weirdly, shrinking or stretching in the wash, not soft, etc. But this tank is so comfy that I want to wear it all the time (I’ll check how it handles in the wash when I muster up the energy to do laundry ha)! And please don’t think this is a marketing strategy or anything like that. All my opinions I express on the blog are my own and are honest. 🙂 Pinky promise.

In the World of J. Austen

I know what you’re thinking and the answer is NO, I did not actually wear this today to walk around town. We took family portraits over the holidays, so I thought I would share my look with you. I’m not really into the traditional studio family portraits, but hey, it’s an excuse to get all dressed up!

So let me tell you something about this dress…MY FAVORITE.
Every girl needs that dress, with a lace corset bodice and satin ribbon, that makes her feel like she’s the female lead character in a Jane Austen novel.
