Half Dome, Yosemite

Have you ever said that you were something, such as a runner, artist, saxophone player, etc. when in actuality the most you’ve you get tired after 2 miles, the most you’ve drawn was a stick figure self portrait, or the most you’ve played was “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the saxophone back in grade school? Yea, been there, done that. You’re more in love with the idea and are continuously striving to be that person, but when it comes down to it, you don’t have a lot of experience. But It’s ok! We all do that!

Yes, this is my relationship with camping and hiking. I actually hike a lot, but since I’ve moved back to the Bay Area, my hikes consist of the same trail because, like most human beings, I am a creature of habit so you can decide whether hiking the same trail over and over again justifies calling myself a hiker.  And as for my camping experience, I would say it starts and stops at my 8th grade Outdoor Ed trip (which was actually intense — backpacking, rock climbing, the whole sha-bang). But I do love the outdoors and I would camp more if I had the opportunity to.

And this past weekend the opportunity came! I finally found a group of wonderful people to actually exercise my love of camping. We were able to snag enough permits for all of us to climb Half Dome!

Half Dome is about a 16 mile hike with a 4800 ft elevation. Yea, you read it. The hike was definitely intense and grueling, but oh so fun! My pictures definitely don’t do it justice since I didn’t want to lug around my nice camera, but hopefully these pics will inspire you to go on this adventure!

Half Dome Tips:
1. Hiking BootsDON’T buy the cheap ones. You will be grateful for the extra grip. I was really happy with these.
2. Water / Hydration tablets – Average person needs 4 L of water during this hike. It’s helpful if you add to your water Hydration tablets (I used Nuun).
3. When climbing down the cables, go down backwards (like climbing down a ladder).
4. Bring good gloves.
5. Bring lots of snacks to munch and replenish your energy.
6. Train – Make sure you train on the stair master or go on other hikes. Strengthen your legs!
7. Backpack: Make sure your backpack has straps to support your shoulders and back to distribute the weight. I really liked the daypack that I bought from Mountain Hardwear.

Initially this post was titled “Glamping without the Glam” and focusing more on what to wear while camping, but seeing that my photographer wasn’t with me and I didn’t want to be that weird new girl taking pictures of herself, I decided to veer away from the outfit posts. I hope you don’t mind.

And this is a real question…
How do single unmarried fashion bloggers get awesome pictures during vacation trips?

Crop Top Wanna Be

I found this great polka-dot top at Crossroads and thought to myself “Let’s be a little daring and maybe, just maybe, wear it with shorts for a cute mid-drift-showing summer look.” Yea, I think my conservative self died for a second and was resurrected the moment I took it out of my closet to wear the next day. But no problem, good thing I had a high waisted skirt to pair it up with. Purchase saved.

And I know I haven’t really been keeping up with TST….this week is Florals. I had polka dots. Close enough. 😛

Camels and Stripes

Three things that I learned from this outfit:

1) If you need to wash your hair but don’t want to lose the waves that you worked so hard for the night before…Dry Shampoo (try this!)
2) Be careful about what shorts you wear when you go mattress shopping if you get my drift.
3) This might be the first time that I’ve mixed prints. I’m kind of liking it!

Fun Florals

And teaching summer school has begun! I keep forgetting my reasoning for signing up to teach summer school. Maybe it was the fear of boredom, habit of busyness, or just the lost of my sanity, but I did. At least I have an excuse to dress up! 🙂 Haha, but honestly, it’s not so bad thus far. I’ve got great kids who are so eager to learn and that’s all a teacher could ask for.

So about this outfit…probably my new favorite summer work outfit. I decided to keep it casual with jeans but dressed it up with this great floral blazer that I found at DenM during my vacation in Redlands. (Scroll down for similar options!)

Feel Good Sandals — Allie Rae Footwear

I was going to do an outfit post today, but I came across this special company and I just feel so compelled to tell you about it! So introducing Allie Rae Footwear — a company trying to raise money to start up their company that focuses on creating jobs and self-sustaining communities in Hondurus through the production of stylish and comfortable sandals.

I feel like my words don’t do this company justice, so please take a look at their short video!

Screen Shot 2014-06-03 at 11.23.27 AM

Look how gorgeous their designs are! Simple yet elegant and not to mention how well made they are. Right now they are awaiting the patent for their unique heel design. Basically, they somehow figured out how to make sandals more comfortable with the heel.

They only have 9 days left to raise the funds, or all of the pledges are going to be gone. So literally it’s All or Nothing.

They are hoping for at least 10,000 people to donate just $10 or more. So let’s get to it! Pledge and spread the word! I decided to pledge $125 in order to get my own pair of Allie Rae Sandals. I think it’s the best deal because you get to both support their cause as well as enhance your shoe collection!

And just to show you how versatile these sandals are, I’ve created 3 style boards for you! I hope this inspires you to make a pledge!

Man, I’m struggling here. The sun is shining, the beach is calling my name and it doesn’t help that I have some new summer clothes that I want to wear!

I spent this past long weekend visiting my grandparents in LA and came back Monday with just enough time to squeeze in a Memorial Day BBQ before the weekend was up! I know I’m a little late when it comes to posting a Memorial Weekend outfit, but I’m just going to say that this is my exceptionally early July 4th outfit. Hey, if it works, why not? 🙂

Oak and Florals

Three day weekend are nice aren’t they? If only society changed the work week to Tu-Fri instead. 🙂 Sadly, it’s time to get back to work but lucky for me there are only 9 more days of school left! In the mean time, you can find me chugging coffee trying to push through. Ha.

Today I bring you a spring look full of florals and color!

DSC_1998

If you haven’t heard of Oak 73 yet, let me be the first to introduce you to this online brand. They focus on the classic shapes but they put a twist on them that makes the apparel anything but boring. Also, I love how all their products are made in the U.S.A. Fabulous designs + Quality make = Happy Girl

I’m wearing their Painted Floral Dress which is the perfect summer dress as the weather continues to warm up. It’s sleeveless but I wanted to wear it to work so I decided to throw on a blazer to make it more appropriate.

The Beauty of Gettin’ Stitch Fixed

I LOVE shopping as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just can’t deal with the indecisiveness, crowded malls, long lines, and fluorescent lights. Sometimes, shopping isn’t as pretty and easy as it seems until…

STITCH FIX.

DSC_1960

DSC_1944

I was just introduced to Stitch Fix — a company who provides you with a personal stylist. This stylist uses the resources and the information that you give them (such as a Pinterest board, FB, IG, etc.) and picks out 5 items for you to choose from. It’s like my own personal shopping fairy came by for a visit! You get to keep the items you like, and then mail the rest back in a prepaid envelope!

Okay, you’re probably saying to yourself..
1) Who says I need help shopping?
2) They don’t know who I am. How are they supposed to dress me?
3) Total waste of money.

Honestly, I said those same things. But I thought I’d give it a try because my last experience at the mall was kind of a drag — no parking, not in my size, long lines, and crowded spaces.

1) You probably don’t need help! But let me tell you, if you’re sometimes lazy and don’t want to step out of the house, but want something new…STITCH FIX is your FIX.
2) They do their research! The more information you give them (a.k.a preferences, social media sites, etc.), the better your stylist can assist you. They ask A LOT of questions to make sure that they serve you well!
3) It costs $20 to sign up for one style fix, but what’s neat is that you can use that $20 towards your purchase! Um, winner. And if you decide to buy all 5 items, you get 25% off your entire purchase!

I had to wait about a month for my box due to the Stitch Fix high demand, but it was worth the wait. It was so fun opening the box and being surprised about the lovely items inside. After much deliberation, I decided to only keep my favorite two items (scroll down to see!) for the sake of my bank account. 🙂

If you’d like to try Stitch Fix for yourself…do use my referral link {click HERE}.
(My stylist was Lydia. I HIGHLY recommend her!)

DSC_1977

What I love about this blouse is its design and flattering shape. It hides the tummy but slightly tapers in so it isn’t boxy. The shirt is versatile — casual, dressy, you name it.

As for the jacket…I’ve been looking for a thin neutral jacket for quite some time. Somehow my style fairy totally got the hint from my bio that I needed one. Ha. She chose a great pick for me with this classy but still a little edgy moto jacket.

I’m in STITCH FIX bliss at the moment. 🙂
